Word Of Wisdom

Page 1IPage 2

There are two parts to your nature – your temporal body born of mortal parents, and your immortal spirit within...Your body is the instrument of your mind. In your emotions, the spirit and the body come closest to being one. What you learn spiritually depends, to a degree, oh you treat your body, that is why the Word of Wisdom is so important. The habit forming substances prohibited by that revelation –tea, coffee, liquor, tobacco – interfere with the delicate feelings of spiritual communication, just as other addictive drugs do. Do not ignore the Word of Wisdom, for that may cost you the “greatest treasures of knowledge, even hidden treasures” promised to those who keep it. And good health is an added blessing. (Ensign, November 1994)
-Boyd K. Packer

This earth is his creation. When we make it ugly, we offend him. Our bodies are the work of our Creator. When we abuse them, we abuse him.(Ensign, December 1983)
-Gordon B. Hinckley

Physical well-being is not only a priceless asset to oneself--it is a heritage to be passed on. With good health, all other activities of life are greatly enhanced. A clean mind in a healthy body enables one to render far more effective service to others. It helps one provide more vigorous leadership. It gives our every experience in life more zest and more meaning. Robust health is a noble and worthwhile attainment.
-Ezra Taft Benson

Some have even used as an alibi the fact that drugs are not mentioned in the Word of Wisdom. What a miserable excuse. There is likewise no mention of the hazards of diving into an empty swimming pool or of jumping from an overpass onto the freeway. But who doubts the deadly consequences of such? Common sense would dictate against such behavior. (Ensign, November 1989)
-Gordon B. Hinckley

The Word of Wisdom does not promise you perfect health, but it teaches how to keep the body you were born with in the best condition and your mind alert to delicate spiritual promptings. (Ensign, May 1996)
-Boyd K. Packer

Do you know that it is your privilege so to live that your minds may all the time be perfectly within your control? Study to preserve your bodies in life and health, and you will be able to control your minds.
-Brigham Young
