Priesthood
The priesthood is power. Think of what is means to be a royal priesthood, not a make-believe, but a royal priesthood, everyone having contact, if we will, with the power of our Heavenly Father, the great King of kings and Lord of lords.
The Lord shares the priesthood with men. The Lord has faith in young people. He shares with young men one of their most prized possessions-his priesthood, the power to act in the name of and by the authority of God. This trust has been imposed in young men throughout history. Noah was ordained when only ten years of age. Samuel must have been ordained at an early age. Joseph was only seventeen when he was sold into Egypt, and it is evident that he received the priesthood prior to that time. The record tells us that Nephi was visited by the Lord when he was "exceeding young." He must have held the priesthood in his youth. God the Father and the Son appeared to a boy in this dispensation of time.
Faith is the activating force of the priesthood. Remember, faith is the activating force of priesthood, without which, priesthood is not effective in your lives.
The priesthood is a guide. The priesthood is a guide to a young man as he grows to maturity and he is strengthened throughout these years by the priesthood quorums. As he realizes that he holds the priesthood and that he is here on earth to do God's will, his actions are tempered. His priesthood will serve as an insurance to him, and he will find a happy life. He will act in accordance with our Heavenly Father's wishes. He will seek out his talents and develop them.
No boy or man fully possesses the priesthood until he learns to serve others and the Lord. It is true that someone with authority may bestow the priesthood by the laying on of hands, but until we do something by way of service to others, the priesthood lies dormant within us and is of little value. We must not fail to magnify the callings we receive.
