Obedience
One seldom-mentioned reason for keeping the commandments is that we then become genuinely happier with ourselves; otherwise, when we are unhappy with ourselves, as we all know, the grim tendency is to pass our misery along.
There are only two kinds of people in the end, those who say to God, “Thy will be done,” and those to whom God says, in the end, “Thy will be done.”
I cannot overemphasize that one’s independence and spiritual strength depend on obedience to the laws and ordinances of the gospel.
Living the commandments brings us into harmony with Deity; we become one in purpose with the Father and the Son. When we are one with God, we walk with spiritual light. Our diligence in keeping the commandments allows the Holy Ghost to dwell within us. We are given the gift of personal revelation. This is a spiritual light that protects us and serves as a beacon, guiding is in righteous ways…When we live the commandments, our countenance is surrounded by gospel light. With this spiritual light, we not longer wander in the strange and darkened paths of the adversary, becoming lost, discouraged, depressed, and fearful. Walking in the light of the gospel we will not lose sight of our eternal goals.
When obedience ceases to be an irritant and becomes our quest, in that moment God will endow us with power.
The Lord votes for you--Satan votes against you--You cast the deciding vote!
In the breaking of every law of God there is the breaking down of the divine elements of the man. Each command we obey sends us another rung up the ladder to perfected manhood and toward godhood; and every law disobeyed is a sliding toward the bottom where man merges into the brute world. Only he who obeys law is free. Serfdom comes to him who defies law.
