Knowledge
Wisdom is the reward you get for a lifetime of listening when you’d rather have been talking.
A man can be saved no faster than he gains knowledge.
When seeking wise counsel, turn to those who have exhibited obedience to the commandments and willingness to follow the promptings of the Spirit. (Ensign, November 1988)
A wise man changes his mind, a fool never.
You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift. You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong. You cannot help the wage earner by pulling down the wage payer. You cannot further the brotherhood of man by encouraging class hatred. You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich. You cannot establish sound security on borrowed money. You cannot keep out of trouble by spending more than you earn. You cannot build character and courage by taking away initiative and independence. You cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they could do for themselves.
To profit from good advice requires more wisdom than to give it.
Many receive advice----only the wise profit by it.
The scriptures teach that “great men are not always wise.” Spiritually you may “know not and know not that you know not,” and be “ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. Your spirit learns in a different way than does your intellect. For “there is a spirit in man: and the inspiration of the Almighty giveth them understanding,” and the Spirit of Christ “giveth light to every man that cometh into the world.” (see Job 32:9, 2 Tim. 3:7, Job 32:8 and D&C 84:46) (Ensign, November 1994)
One may have many talents and knowledge but never acquire wisdom because he does not learn to be compassionate with his fellow man. (Ensign, November 1988)
To be a philosopher is to recognize the True, to desire the Beautiful, to establish the Good. This is wisdom; all else is folly.
When you're through changing, you're through. |
